The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor will soon form a team to monitor the fees charged by domestic labor recruiting offices in the country during Ramadan, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting sources.
Sources revealed some domestic labor offices usually charge exorbitant fees during Ramadan, depending on the nationality of the housemaids. They said the team will be tasked to conduct surprise inspection visits to these offices during Ramadan, record any fee increase, and identify offices that do not comply with the specified fees for the ministry to take the necessary legal action against them.
Sources disclosed the penalties include closure of the erring offices, immediate deportation of the housemaids, requiring the owners of erring offices to bear the repatriation costs, compensating the sponsors for amount he spent in recruiting the housemaid either through a domestic labor office or directly from the country of origin.
The Council of Ministers is waiting for the results of a study conducted by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) on the compulsory retirement of employees, who have been in service for more than 30 years, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Roudhan Al-Roudhan.
Al-Roudhan clarified the CSC will determine the actual number of workers under this category, their fields of specialization, and if the ministries still need their services. He confirmed the government is bent on implementing the compulsory retirement law to give young and qualified employees a chance to prove their abilities.
Meanwhile, Al-Roudhan asserted the government remains committed to its promise to implement the development plan within the specified timeframe.
